As the world changes, traditional structures and known marks tend to be blurred or disappear. According to german sociologist Wilhelm Heitmeyer, this causes people to experience a feeling of loss of control which can turn into fear of the future. These feelings, tend to favor the development of autoritarian and/or securitarian regimes.
Therefore, being able to react efficiently to global environmental change without threatening democracy might be the challenge for post-modern societies.
Creating and developing new ways of expressing citizenship in a non-governmental frame could be the answer to this challenge and enable Re-Evolution.
Our generation is the Erasmus Generation, the generation of Europe and the Environment, of E-mails and Ecology, the E Generation.
By combining virtual networks like Facebook with NGO networks and working hand in hand with public institutions we can support local non-governmental projects and stimulate active citizenship.
Through a new concept of NGO structure, based on the works of Australian political scientist John Burnheim, which enables network centered work in the fields of social, cutural and educative activity, we can help people understand the world they live in, help them formulate a project and eventually help them realize it.
If this works, it could make non-governmental organization the flours on the tree of democracy.
